Crime down in Gilmerton

CRIME has fallen in the Liberton/Gilmerton area by nearly a fifth during the last nine months, new figures show.

A total of 1685 crimes were reported in the area between April 1 and December 31, compared with 2019 for the same period a year before, a drop of 17 per cent.

The number of house- breakings fell from 48 to 26 over the same period, with vehicle thefts and attempted thefts decreasing from 122 to 56.

Vandalism cases fell from 593 to 545, while offences involving the carrying of offensive weapons declined from 33 to 18.
