More than 100 people were arrested as part of a Police Scotland campaign to keep people safe in Midlothian during the festive period.

Operation Tinsel, launched throughout the Lothians and Scottish Borders Division in December, was aimed at targeting offences which regularly occur over Christmas and New Year.

During the month-long operation, 33 people were charged in connection with violent crimes across Midlothian, with a further 30 individuals charged for domestic abuse offences.

Local policing teams also arrested 47 people for anti-social behaviour-related offences.

Road policing officers and local policing teams provided a strong presence across Midlothian’s road network during the holiday season and as a result 60 people have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for a range of motoring offences including drink driving, driving without insurance, speeding, and using a mobile phone while driving.
