Owners now doubt whether Jashans, a popular Bangladeshi restaurant on Moat Drive, will be able to open for business in the wake of the break-in.

The restaurant was targeted in the early hours of Monday morning by thieves who smashed through two doors, stealing a laptop, the till, bottles of wine, and hundreds of pounds in cash.

“They tried everything,” he said, “they tried to break into the office and the camera room, but didn’t have anything heavy enough to break the lock.”

“They even tried to open the fridge,” he added.

Abdul said he was woken by a call from the police at 4:45am this morning, after the break-in was reported to them.

The thieves managed to take around £400 in cash from the till, as well as money that was meant to pay for delivery drivers.

Despite the money lost, the 53-year-old insists that he is “very lucky”.

“I have to pay the rent today,” he explained, “it’s very lucky that they didn’t break the lock to the office, where most of the restaurant’s money was kept safe.”

Now there are concerns that the business may not be able to open for takeaway and delivery orders later today.

“We will try,” said Abdul, “but our system is a mess. They stole the laptop, as well as the printer we use for orders.”
