Under Operation Penitant, police carried out five house searches, undertook 16 successful stop and searches, and seized £1680 worth of controlled drugs and £2000 in cash.

They identified the East End of Princes Street, Picardy Place, and Hunter Square as three key areas of concern after getting tip-offs from the public.

Throughout the week, 13 people were also charged or reported, one knife was seized and 19 drinking warnings were issued.

Local officers were supported by Police Scotland’s national Violence Reduction Taskforce.

Inspector David Robertson said: “Tackling these issues is my top priority and that is why I have organised this focused activity.

“I will continue to act on information provided to me by the public in order to make every effort to detect, deter and disrupt those involved.

“This week of activity is in response to information from the public and we couldn’t have done it without the help and support from the public.”
