East Lothian police hunting man who absconded after being stopped for driving offences

Officers have launched a search for a man who ran away after being pulled over for committing a number of driving offences.

The driver absconded after being stopped in Gifford on Sunday evening and police have been in the area searching for him.

Witnesses reported seeing a heavy police presence in the Walden Terrace area of Gifford where officers were hunting for the driver yesterday evening.

Police are now following a "positive line of inquiry" after carrying out street by street searches in the East Lothian town last night.

A police spokesman said: “At about 6.10pm on Sunday, 8 November, police were carrying out searches in the Walden Terrace are of Gifford, looking for a man suspected of a number of road traffic offences. Officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”
