Alexander Nelson, 31, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court accused of stealing the hot tubs from an industrial unit in Macmerry, East Lothian,

Nelson, from the city’s Fernieside area, is alleged to have acted with others unknown and forced open a locked commercial yard to steal the six-person spas.

It is also alleged Nelson committed the offence having been granted bail following an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.

Nelson pleaded not guilty to the charges on a summary complaint and was released on bail following the court appearance in front of Sheriff Peter McCormack.

Nelson is now due to return to the dock to stand trial in relation to the alleged theft in May next year.

The court appearance comes just three days after ten ‘Harris’ hot tubs, worth around £4995 each, were allegedly taken from the Advanced Hot Tubs and Spas outlet in Macmerry, East Lothian.

Witnesses later claimed trucks arrived at the yard at around 8.30pm and left carrying the hot tub haul a short time later on Friday, December 11 after they were loaded up using a fork-lift truck borrowed from a neighbouring commercial company.

Nelson pleaded not guilty to forcing open a lock fast commercial yard and stealing a quantity of hot tubs, while acting with others in the meantime unknown, at Macmerry Industrial Estate, Macmerry, East Lothian, on December 11 and 12 this year.
