Edinburgh man hospitalised after falling into road on Princes Street

Officers said he was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police were called to Edinburgh’s Princes Street after a man was reported to have fallen into the roadway this morning.

The eastbound carriageway of the city centre street was partially blocked during the incident, which happened at around 8:30am.

Officers said the man, who has not been named, fell into the road near the McDonald’s at the western end of the street.

He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by an ambulance as a precaution, police added.

Traffic on Lothian Road and Shandwick Place, which had been building during the incident, has since been eased.
