Forensics teams and police called to Leith flat over 'unexplained death'

Police and forensics teams are investigating the “unexplained death” of a man at a property in Leith.

Pictures sent to the Evening News today show officers in white suits standing outside the building in Bathfield, while police were seen at the front and rear.

Police were called to the flat on Monday night and a spokesperson for the force confirmed the man’s death is being treated as “unexplained,” with inquiries continuing to establish the full circumstances.

Speaking on Tuesday, one local resident said: "I was putting my bins out last night saw what appeared to be broken wood in the window and a television on.

"This morning the police arrived. They came with crime scene examiners. A private ambulance is also there now and they are all around the building.

"At the start of the lockdown there was some sort of incident at the same flat and we all thought that someone had tried to break in. But this looks far more serious, like someone inside has died."

Forensics officers were seen entering the building this afternoon as police stood guard at the doorway.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8:20pm on Monday, May 11th 2020, police received a report a man had died within a property in Bathfield, Leith.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death.”
