A man broke into and stole money from a shop in North High Street, Musselburgh, on Thursday morning.

He caused damage to the building before running off.

Police responded quickly and apprehended a man nearby who was found in possession of stolen money and tools. The man was arrested and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A 38-year-old man was arrested after cash was stolen from a premises in Cockenzie on January 11.

Chief Inspector Neil Mitchell, Local Area Commander for East Lothian stated: “In recent weeks, we have experienced a small increase in thefts from cars and theft by housebreaking to businesses in East Lothian.

“Our CID Pro-active team and local officers are working tirelessly to detect such crimes and identify those involved. These arrests highlight the good work that they are doing.

“Our proactive enquiries will continue throughout the coming days and weeks as we continue to target those who are intent on committing such offences.

“If you see anyone acting in a suspicious manner, particularly into the early hours of the morning or late at night, please call us on 101 or 999 if an emergency.”
