In a statement on their Facebook, a spokesperson for East Lothian Police said: “It is a criminal offence to carry a knife and doing so can have tragic consequences. It is vital that, if you know someone is carrying a knife or a weapon, you report this to a person of authority.

“You have a responsibility not to be a bystander in your community. Young people are encouraged to tell to a parent, teacher, youth worker, police or any trusted adult if they have information about a person carrying a weapon.”
