It is believed the graffiti 'tag' was written on part of Seafield Crematorium at some point between 11pm on Monday and 4am on Tuesday morning.

John Proffitt, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Crematoriums Ltd which runs the Seafield Crematorium, confirmed they are aware of the graffiti and are in the process of arranging for it to be removed.

One local funeral director said the vandalism would definitely be noticed by anyone pulling into the crematorium, and confirmed there was at least one service taking place there on Tuesday.

The funeral director said: "It's not what families want to see when they are going there.

"There are hundreds of funerals a week going on across the country right now and it's not ideal that someone went there to do something like this."

Another angry funeral director, who was at a service there on Wednesday, said: “ It is shocking families have to see this.”
