Man, 19, hospitalised after 'serious assault' in Oxgangs park

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital tonight after a serious assault in an Oxgangs park.

The attack happened in Oxgangs Road North, at Colinton Mains Park, shortly before 6pm this evening.

It is understood the victim went into a nearby Scotmid shop following the attack.

A local resident, who did not want to be named, said their husband was inside the shop at the time and saw a man who "looked like he had been stabbed in the head."

She said paramedics and police were present and that the front of the shop was taped off.

The woman said the couple are both "shocked" by the incident, adding: "This place is getting worse."

Another local resident said there were children playing in the park around the time of the attack.

A police spokesman said the man was taken to the Edinbugh Royal Infirmary for treatment but he could not confirm whether the man had been stabbed.

The spokesman said: "Police were called at around 5:50pm on Tuesday, February 25th following reports of a serious assault on Oxgangs Road North.

"Emergency services attended and a 19-year-old man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment and inquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information related to this incident should call 101 quoting incident number 2780 of Tuesday. February 25th."

A worker at Scotmid store declined to comment tonight.
