A man has been arrested following reports of a disturbance in Leith that caused an entire street to be cordoned off.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at North Junction Street at around 6.10pm on Friday evening.

Multiple police units were spotted on the scene as officers cordoned off the immediate area.

Eyewitnesses said they saw police in riot gear carrying a battering ram and other tools.

Others say there were police dogs present, while police officers were also seen searching back gardens behind tenement flats.

‘No wider threat’

Police say they have arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the incident, adding that there was no wider threat to the public.

A police spokesperson said : Officers attended at North Junction Street in Leith at 6.10pm on Friday 20 June after reports of a disturbance, a 49 year old man was arrested. There was no threat to the wider public.”
