A man has been charged after police were called to a busy Tranent street after reports of a man in possession of a hammer.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident on Bridge Street on Wednesday, February 19 and appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday (Thursday, 20 February).

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.10pm on Wednesday, 19 February, officers received a report of a man in possession of a hammer on Bridge Street in Tranent. A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Thursday, 20 February)."
