Police in Scotland have discovered a body in the search for a woman who went missing from East Lothian over the weekend.

Maureen Mary Steele, 46, who the police described as ‘vulnerable’ was last seen on Friday, July 31 leaving her home in Tranent.

Police confirmed last night (Mon) that at around 8pm the body of a woman was found in Longniddry.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, however her family have been informed of the discovery.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland can confirm around 8pm today the body of a woman was found in Longniddry in East Lothian.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, however the family of 46-year-old Maureen Steele, reported missing from Tranent on Saturday, have been informed.”
