Midlothian police launch appeal following Penicuik theft

Police in Midlothian are appealing for witnesses after a van and lorry were stolen from an industrial estate in Penicuik.

The thief or thieves struck sometime between 6pm on Wednesday, November 2, and 6:45am on Thursday, November 3, at a commercial premises within the Eastfield Industrial Estate.

Staff raised the alarm after they returned to work on Thursday morning and discovered that a white Ford Transit van, with the registration PE11 GOC, and a white Iveco 7.5 tonne lorry, with the registration WX61 FDE, had been stolen from a secure yard.

Attached to the Transit was a large single barrel roller while a trailer containing a three tonne Kubota mini digger was attached to the Iveco lorry.

Dalkeith CID are now carrying out inquiries into this incident and are today urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Detective Constable Gavin Morrison based in Dalkeith, said: “This appears to have been a well planned theft and I urge anyone who remembers hearing or seeing any suspicious activity in the area of Eastfield Drive overnight on Thursday to come forward immediately.

“It’s likely that more than one person was involved in this crime and I again ask anyone who can help identify them or who has seen these vehicles to get in touch.”

Those with relevant information are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively an anonymous report can be made through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
