The 33-year-old was returning from her shift at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary when she was killed on Old Dalkeith Road, just yards from her home, on Ravenswood Avenue.

Brenda McDonald, 64, said: “Jill was loved by everyone who knew her, but most especially by her close family.

“We will miss her more than words can express. She was the kindest person on earth.”

Brenda told of her daughter was a pupil at Tynecastle High School and originally studied for a degree in biomedical science.

But instead she turned to nursing, and completed her qualifications at Napier University.

Brenda added: “She was simply a wonderful person and will always be in our hearts.”
