The number of rape cases reported in Midlothian has more than doubled, according to figures released by Lothian and Borders Police.
Sexual crimes reported rose from 54 to 63, with reported rapes more than doubling on last year – from seven to 15. Forty per cent of these were solved.
However, the force’s “Measuring our Performance” report shows that reported crime overall fell.
Between April and November 3148 incidents were logged, compared with 3743 in the same period last year – a drop of 16 per cent.
The publication also revealed crimes solved were down by two per cent on last year.
