A group of young people have been spotted climbing on top of a greenhouse in a park for several nights in a row, much to the dismay of local residents.

The teenagers are often seen gathered in Saughton Park at night before scrambling up the glass roof of the greenhouse.

Following reports of the youngsters from local residents, a local community group took to Facebook to highlight the issue on Sunday night.

Yet sightings of the teenagers again on Monday only heightened the concerns raised in the community.

Community group Friends of Saughton Park posted a message on Facebook warning others in the area about the reckless behaviour.

In a post it read: “Sadly there has been an increase of antisocial behaviour in the Park. If you see any please call the police in 101. If 30 of you see it please all call the 101 number.

“If you feel threatened or in danger phone 999 immediately. Just to clarify anti social behaviour is things like climbing on roofs, vandalism, leaving taps running. The park is for everyone to enjoy.”

Members of the community group have said they are both concerned about the condition of the building, but also the safety of the teenagers for fear someone might fall.

Another community group on Facebook, Stenhouse, Saughton Mains and Whitson Community Council, has also shared its concerns about the youngsters climbing on the glass building in the newly revamped park.

In a post members said: “So another night of these young people on the roof lots of reports from residents. Only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt.”

The concerns come after a facility in which sporting equipment was stored was set alight nearby, almost claiming the life of a disabled homeless man.

Two fire appliances – one each from Sighthill and Tollcross – were called to the running track at Saughton Sports Complex just before 7pm on June 1, where a number of rubber gym mats in a weather shelter were found alight.

Police Scotland and Edinburgh Council have been contacted for comment.
