Second vehicle trapped as numerous trees fall in high winds across Edinburgh

High winds have caused a number of trees to crash to the ground across the city.

A fallen tree has landed among parked cars in Morningside Drive in Edinburgh’s Southside this afternoon, trapping a silver Mercedes.

Damage to the vehicle in not yet clear, but it appears that the trunk of the horse chestnut tree landed in between it and a claret-coloured Ford hatchback.

It follows a number of other incidents of trees falling into roads across the capital today.

Earlier, a falling tree crushed a moving taxi on a road in Davidson’s Main.

The black Mercedes people carrier was stopped in its tracks on Cramond Road South near the roundabout with Main Street.

Luckily the driver managed to escape unscathed.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We were called around 3.30pm on Friday, 22 May, to a report of a tree falling on a taxi in Cramond Road South, Edinburgh. No one was injured but the road is currently blocked."

Another downed tree has blocked Old Dalkeith Road near Liberton Golf Club, but did not hit any cars.
