Three charged over East Lothian hare coursing

THREE men have been charged with hare coursing in East Lothian.

As part of the ongoing commitment to tackle crimes of this nature, local inquiries were conducted near to Gifford, where offences have previously been reported and the men aged 23,26 and 31 were detained and arrested on Wednesday 6th April.

They were subsequently charged and will appear in court at a later date.

A vehicle the trio were using has also been seized and bail conditions have been imposed prohibiting any of the individuals from returning to the East Lothian countryside.

Inspector Alan Hogarth from Haddington Police Station said: “Hare coursing is an utterly barbaric practice, which not only inflicts great suffering on the animal but is widely condemned by our communities.

“This crime will not be tolerated within East Lothian and anyone found to be involved will be robustly dealt with.

“Anyone wishing to report incidents of hare coursing can do so by contacting us on 101.”
