Tributes pour in for young pair killed in Whitburn crash

Friends and family have paid emotional tribute to two young men killed in a crash in Whitburn on Saturday.

Friends 23-year-old Troi Lawton and 19-year old Connor Elgey were both from Bathgate.

In a post on social media, a friend of the pair, Chloe Haddow, wrote: “Rest in paradise Troi, you are one in a million and have been taken way too young.

“I have so many good memories with you knowing you my whole life - you weren’t just a good friend but family.

“I love you like a big brother. You were always there no matter what. I will cherish every laugh we ever had growing up.

“I can’t believe it. You will be missed by loads. A better guy you couldn’t get - thoughts, love and prayers are with all your family - love ya man.”

She went on to pay tribute to her friend Connor too, writing: “Rest in paradise Connor. Only knew you a few years but you are an amazing boy - can’t believe you have been taken so young.

“Have some good memories with you and will cherish them - thoughts, love and prayers are with your family. Fly high both of yous love and miss yous loads.”

Siobhan Lawton added: “Fly high Troi - I’ll forever love you till we meet again angel.”

This morning, West Lothian police posted a solemn message on social media: “We wake this morning with the memory of a truly dreadful weekend for West Lothian.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those affected. It's a time to come together as a community, to pause, reflect and support.”

On Sunday, Connor Elgey’s family said: “We are devastated by the tragic loss of Connor. His loss will be sorely felt by many.

“We would ask that we are given privacy to come to terms with his loss at this time.”

Troi Lawton’s family told the public: “We are all devastated and still in shock, we would not wish this upon anyone never mind our broken hearted family.

“We would ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

Officers said the crash happened around 5am on Saturday, 29 August, 2020, when a blue Subaru Impreza left the road.

Two other men involved in the crash, aged 52 and 28, remain at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in critical condition.

The road was closed for around 12 hours while emergency services worked at the scene.

Police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the incident.

They said he was later released pending further enquiries.

Inspector Roger Park, of Lothians Road Policing Unit said: “This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the men’s family and friends at this time.

“Investigations into the crash are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone with information which could assist our enquiries to call 101, quoting 0858 of 29 August."
