Watch: shocking footage shows vandals trashing Edinburgh's Fishmarket takeaway and restaurant

Vandals have been caught on CCTV smashing windows of a popular takeaway and restaurant in the Capital.

Despite the current challenges hospitality businesses are facing amid the coronavirus pandemic, two people decided to target The Fishmarket in Newhaven on Tuesday night.

On camera the heartless vandals can be seen throwing objects at the building and kicking in the windows.

Both Welch Fishmonger and The Fishmarket on Pier Palace were damaged by the duo.

Those at The Fishmarket shared their frustration on social media following the incident saying: “Caught in the act on CCTV. Just sickens us. The Fishmarket and WelchFishmonger both had windows smashed.

“Please call 101 with any information before it happens to other business or homes. Stay safe everyone.”

Councillor for Portobello and Craigmillar Callum Laidlaw said: “Sickened that in these very tough times for hospitality businesses some mindless vandals decided to smash the windows in of The Fishmarket. I hope Edinburgh Police catches the culprits and they feel the full brunt of the law. Any information please call 101.”

A police spokesman said: “We received a report around 7am on Wednesday, 25 March, that windows to a business premises in Pier Place, Edinburgh, had been vandalised overnight.

"Officers are following a positive line of enquiry and anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 0395 of Wednesday, 25 March.”
