A dog owner has called for help to find the driver responsible for leaving his family pet seriously injured on the side of the road.

Edinburgh resident Craig Wilson has spoken of the moment he heard his two-year-old cavalier King Charles spaniel, called Bo, get hit by a car driving down a residential street.

He said: “I turned to talk to my neighbour and the next thing I heard was this loud bang and I saw my dog go flying along the road as far as three doors down.

“The car was still going along without stopping.

“I went into to shock and Bo just lay there lifeless on the road.

“I ran to her and realised she was still alive but not in a good way.”

The incident happened in Craigentinny Avenue at about 5:30pm on Monday (May 11) outside the family home just before Craig was about to set off on a walk with his dog.

Craig said the traumatic experience has left his seven-year-old daughter devastated.

He said: “We feared the worse for Bo. My daughter is distraught and her bedroom window looks out to the front where it happened.

“Her window was open and she heard all the commotion and looked out to see me in the road with her little dog.

“She now says she never wants her window open again to hear those noises.”

The car in question (pictured above) is believed to have been caught on CCTV by one of Craig’s neighbours.

The vehicle involved is thought to be a white Vauxhall Corsa or Astra.

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland was made aware of a dog having been struck by a vehicle on Craigentinny Avenue in Edinburgh around 5.30pm on Monday, 12 May. Enquries into the incident are ongoing.”
