York place assault: Police are investigating after reports of girl assaulted in Edinburgh city centre

Police in Edinburgh are investigating after receiving reports of a 15-year-old girl being assaulted on York Place.

Emergency services were spotted at the scene just around from St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a 15-year-old girl being assaulted on York Place in Edinburgh around 6pm on Friday, 31 July.

"She has not suffered any serious injuries. Enquiries are ongoing and at an early stage."

Earlier on Friday saw police descend on Portobello beach as reports of a ‘large disturbance’ were made.

Photographs of the incident showed the police confiscating bottles and breaking up large groups of people.

The Capital saw a mini heat wave hit on Friday with highs of 28C.
