Crowds flock for the Fringe

TICKET sales for this year’s Festival Fringe are up by as much as ten per cent, according to many venues.

With the festival in its middle week, The Gilded Balloon – one of the “Big Four” venues – has reported that sales were up 10 per cent on last year’s on a daily basis, while Zoo venues, which has 88 shows in three buildings, has reported a 10.5 per cent increase.

The Traverse Theatre said sales were up and the Pleasance said sales were currently level with last year’s record figures.

Laura Mackenzie Stuart, co-founder of Universal Arts, which runs the New Town Theatre in George Street, said: “This is turning out to be one of best years for ages.”
