A ‘forgotten’ Burns monument could soon be returned to its former glory in Dalkeith town centre.

Moves are afoot to reposition the historic structure, currently at Komorom Court, back to its original location at the junction of South Street and High Street.

A growing facebook campaign resulted in a meeting between Dalkeith councillor Margot Russell (Lab) and Rod Lugg, who manages the local Town Heritage Initiative.

The pair have designs to fully restore the monument, and Mr Lugg has been busy making sketches with a view to attracting outside funding.

He told the Advertiser: “It’s feasible and I think it can be done but we don’t want to raise anyone’s expectations.”
