There’s just a few days left to say a special ‘thank you’ to someone who makes you smile.

Advertiser readers are being invited to nominate someone who lights up their life for a Smile Award.

The awards are being organised to coincide with Scotland’s Happiness Day on November 2 and the deadline for nominations is October 12.

This week, we received two nominations from our readers. Mary MacFarlane, from Woodburn, is an activities co-ordinator at Archview Lodge Care Home in Dalkeith.

She hit the headlines in 2011 when she drew together singers from Archview and neighbouring care home Whitehill Lodge to form the One Voice Choir.

Mary, of Woodburn Avenue, has been giving up her free time to put smiles on people’s faces for a number of years.

She formerly volunteered at the local Woodburn Children’s Drama Club until its base at Dalkeith Community Centre was closed in 2011.

Through her involvement with the Club she organised numerous open sports days within Dalkeith Country Park.
