Dalkeith litter pickers spring into action

With spring in the air, local volunteers have returned to clear litter from a stretch of the Dalkeith to Penicuk railway walk.

“It took around half a dozen of us less than five hours to fill around 30 bags with debris from verges and amenity areas by the Waverley Park area, Bonnyrigg,” said Dr Ralph Warwick, environmental officer of Dalkeith Rotary Club.

The retired GP was the moving force behind launch of the Rotary project four years ago, aimed at cleaning-up otherwise green borders along the route between Sheriffhall and Cockpen Road.

“We’ve been back to tidy up every spring since, working in partnership with the Ranger Service who supply bags, gloves and tools. We are heartened by the appreciation expressed by walkers and cyclists,” Dr Warwick added.
