A Dalkeith mum of two has described her horror at discovering her pet cat had been shot through the heart and killed.

Beautician Kirstie Ferguson said her daughters Eva (four) and Alyssa (three) have been left “devastated” by the loss of the black-and-white moggy.

Daisy Boy lost his life on grassland next to Dalkeith Schools Community Campus.

Mrs Ferguson told the Advertiser this week: “It must have been during the night on Wednesday (May 14). Someone spotted him lying dead on the grass the next morning.

“A dog walker saw my contact details on his collar and called in the afternoon to say that he was dead. We didn’t know at the time that he had been shot.

“I was puzzled because there were no obvious signs of trauma, and so I took him straight to the vet who carried out a post mortem. That is how I discovered that he had been shot through the heart. I was in bits to begin with but now I’m more angry than sad.

“I just can’t believe that someone would do this. It’s sickening.”
