Even a touch of rain didn’t dampen the spirits at the Dalkeith Show on Saturday, with crowds up on last year at the agricultural show.

The all-day show, now in its 211th year, featured the best of Midlothian farming, with cattle and sheep categories and a number of equestrian events, as well as a selection of local food and craft exhibitors.

Linda Stewart, chairwoman of the Dalkeith Agricultural Society, which runs the event, said: “It went very well. Even though it wasn’t a bright sunny day. There were a few showers first thing, but in the main it was quite nice really. A lot of people came and there were a lot of positive comments.

“We are just looking at the numbers now and I think we were slightly up on last year.

“We had kids and parents competing in It’s a Knockout. That was very popular. We had a ridden Clydesdale class, that went down well.

“I have to say a big thanks to the sponsors. Everyone on the stands, all the volunteers.
