Local teenager Erin Gilbertson (14) from Woodburn, has raised £504 for Together for Short Lives, the leading UK charity for all children with life shortening illnesses.

Erin, an S2 pupil at Dalkeith High School, contacted local businesses to appeal for donations for her raffle. She said: “I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of the local businesses in my community and I can’t thank them enough for their support.”

Erin, who managed to collect 40 prize donations, added: “I’m really pleased with the amount I raised and I’m extremely thankful to everyone who supported me by buying tickets. It really means a lot.”

One Dalkeith businessman from Hamptons Hairdressing heard of Erin’s charity collections and donated all his tips for the week to her cause. David from Hamptons wrote to Erin: “I am writing to thank you for sending me your letter which was inspirational. I decided to save my tips last week and donate them to your campaign. I rounded my tips up to £30. I wish you the best of luck with all your planned events.”

Erin has her own just giving page - www.justgiving.com/Erin-GilbertsonMissJuniorTeenGreatBritainSemiFinalist2016 to raise money for Together for Short Lives and is already planning her next fundraising event, which will be a cake sale on Saturday, March 26. Erin continued: “ I’m very excited about his one and I have already had a confirmed donation from Greggs the bakers of 60 cakes for the event.”

Erin’s mum, Jenna Gilbertson (36) said: “I’m very proud of Erin. She’s always thinking of others and how she can help them. She has a very caring nature. Since she was in nursery she’s taken part in various charity events but this was the first time she’s organised one on her own and at only 14 years old that’s to be commended and encouraged.”
