Craig Gallagher and Josh Thomson won a tie-break shoot-out as Dalkeith’s 16 & Under Boys’ team beat Hatton 7-6 on Saturday for their first win in the Aegon Team Tennis League.

With the overall match tied at 6-6 after two rounds, the Dalkeith pair teamed up to beat Peter Kasperek and Juan Carlos Alcala-Chirinos 10-6 in the winner takes all decider.

Gallagher had earlier beaten Alex Bordwell 6-3, 6-0, while Thomson came from behind with Lewis Houliston to beat Kane Boyle and Alcala-Chirinos 3-6, 6-1, 10-7, before Thomson beat Boyle 6-3, 6-2 in the second round to force the decider.

Dalkeith’s Ladies’ team suffered their first defeat in two seasons when they went down 9-3 at Aberdour 2 on Thursday in Division 6B of the Dunlop East of Scotland League. Elaine Gray and Alice Smith won all three sets for Dalkeith, who slip back to second spot on set percentage.

Dalkeith will be looking to get their promotion challenge back on track this week when they host lowly Waverley 3 on Thursday.

In the Men’s leagues, after knocking Dunfermline off top spot last week, Dalkeith 2 beat the new leaders Mortonhall 3 9-7 in Division 8B on Wednesday. Dalkeith trailed 4-2 after the first round, but pulled back to 6-6 after round two, before clinching the win with three sets in the final round. Angus Scott and Steven Smith won six, with Gordon Scott and Frank O’Donnell adding the other three sets.

In Division 9A, Dalkeith 3 went down 14-3 at home to Barnton Park 4 on Wednesday, while Dalkeith 1’s relegation from Division 4B was confirmed on Monday with a 10-2 defeat at home to Kirkcaldy 1.

This week, Dalkeith 2 host St Serf’s 4 while Dalkeith 3 head to first placed Musselburgh. Dalkeith 1 visit last-placed Dean 2.
