Dalkeith Thistle work hard to pick up all three points

Dalkeith Thistle hit their 50th goal of the season to set them off on the victory trail finally resulting in all three league points being safely gathered.

David Hay safely gathered a Liam Campbell chance in eight minutes before a lively Montrose move involving Rae and Watson saw Hay tip the ball round the post for a second corner to the visitors in the opening minutes .At the other end a wayward shot from Michael Hunter failed to test visiting keeper Ross McLeod. Montrose continued to impress but a good chance to Campbell saw Hay again in action to keep his clean sheet.

But it was in the 13th unlucky minute for Montrose that Dalkeith went ahead via a free kick from just outside the penalty area. Craig O’ Reilly fired in the free kick that took a wicked deflection off the Montrose defensive wall and squirted into the corner of the net past Roselea keeper McLeod for the opener.

Montrose redoubled their efforts to find the equaliser now but the home defence stood firm. Dalkeith’s Jonny Scott Mercer saw his header well taken by McLeod before in 42 minutes a shot from O’Reilly was parried by McLeod into the path of Scott McNaughton but the winger blasted the chance well over.

Grant Mowatt went very close in 51 minutes with a raging visitors’ free kick as Dalkeith needed a second safety goal which eventually came along on the hour mark via the penalty spot !

Sean Lally was pulled down in the box and it was Craig O’Reilly who slotted home the resultant spot kick making it 2-0 with half an hour left for play.

Thistle had spells pressing for goal number three but they crossed the finishing line with a hard earned win with a Thistle season still with lots to play for.
