Dalkeith woman hurt in crash

A 22-year-old Dalkeith woman suffered neck injuries when her Peugeot 206 collided with a broken-down car on the A702 near Easter Howgate.

The accident happened as the woman was driving southbound shortly before 9pm on Saturday, January 14. The broken-down vehicle was a Rover 216.

Penicuik firefighters made the vehicles safe and gave first aid to the casualty before she was taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The crew also cleared away a small diesel spill on the road.

Meanwhile, a man drove into railings on The Loan, Loanhead, after being blinded by the sun on Friday, January 13, at 12.50pm.

The 66-year-old local man was driving his Citroen westbound when the sunlight caused him to swerve and strike railings close to the pedestrian crossing near the Memorial Park.

The man was uninjured, but his car suffered extensive front nearside damage. The railings were also bent.

The road was closed until 1.30pm and traffic diversions were in operation.
