Dawe backs ice rink plan

City leader Jenny Dawe has backed plans to ensure that the festive ice rink returns to Edinburgh next month.

The rink was under threat after operator AJA Events said it did not want to risk further losses following a “significant” loss last year.

Talks are now progressing regarding a rescue deal that would ensure the ice rink goes ahead, and the Evening News revealed yesterday that a deal could be signed with M&D Taylor, the company behind “Scotland’s Theme Park” at Strathclyde Country Park.

Councillor Dawe said: “The ice rink has offered a great deal to Edinburgh as part of the winter celebrations and I hope to see it continue.”

Crunch talks are planned for early next week to finalise a deal for the ice rink, which was due to open to the public on November 24.
