Penicuik town centre businesses have only a few more days to cast their vote over the proposed Business Improvement District plan.

Penicuik First, the group consisting of local BIDs participants, community groups and Midlothian Council, needs the support of local firms to become a fully fledged scheme.

The ballot closes on May 26 at 5pm with the results annouced at Penicuik Library on May 27 at 3pm.

Although ballot papers went out at the middle of April, a second batch papers has been distributed to ensure everyone eligible to vote can.

Local councillor Derek Rosie said it was vital for local businesses backed the BIDs scheme. “It is extremely important because of the investment we could attract if it is successful. It is vital to get improvements made to the town centre.”
