A FORMER Penicuik resident has put pen to paper to produce his first novel.

Roddy Smith (61) has written MacLeod’s Law, a Scottish thriller, set in the north-west Highlands. The novel tells the story of one man’s relentless pursuit to avenge his friend’s death – and Penicuik gets a mention, too!

Born and brought up in Penicuik, Roddy attended primary school at Jackson Street and then Eastfield Primary before moving to Penicuik Secondary School.

A keen sports enthusiast, Roddy played rugby for the school on Saturday mornings and football for Penicuik Welfare in the afternoons. He was later selected to represent Midlothian county rugby team.
