Delayed health centre to open by spring

A NEW health centre which has suffered years of delay is on schedule to open by the spring, health chiefs have insisted.

The Musselburgh Primary Care Centre has been a long-promised improvement for the East Lothian town, but has been held up by everything from red tape to the discovery of Roman ruins.

However, NHS Lothian has now said it is confident the centre will meet its latest opening date and will be operational by the spring as “a fantastic addition to health services in the area”.

David Small, general manager for the East Lothian Community Health Partnership, said: “The new Musselburgh Primary Care Centre is starting to take shape, and I look forward to seeing it progress over the next few months.

“The new facility will bring wide-ranging benefits and provide the very best healthcare for the community.”

The centre will house a range of services, including those currently provided at the town’s Edenhall Hospital.

Plans for moving the remainder of services from Edenhall Hospital are being discussed, NHS Lothian said, and will be finalised and made public.
