A FORMER Penicuik Hunter has been chosen as the town’s Citizen of the Year.
Derek Wilson, who was the festival principal in 1986, was given the accolade at a reception in the Town Hall last week.
He was congratulated by Derek Cozens, chairman of Penicuik and District Community Council.
The 53-year-old, who works at Glencorse Golf Club, received a certificate from the retiring Citizen, Annabel Oates, who thanked the people of Penicuik and community councillors for making her tenure such an enjoyable one.
She also took the opportunity to praise Derek for introducing local youngsters to football coaching.
Accepting the award, Derek said: “This is a real honour and a very humbling one to be chosen your home town’s Citizen of the Year. Having been born and lived here all my life makes it extra special. It is certainly up there with me eing chosen as the 50th anniversary Hunter in 1986.”
