A RANDOM encounter on a bus provided the spark which led Diamond Wedding couple Oliver and Jean Chisholme to the alter on March 28, 1952.
Borderer Oliver (83) was carrying out his National Service at Dreghorn Barracks when he climbed aboard the Hawick-bound coach and laid eyes on Jean (80), from Galashiels.
Seated next to each other, the soul mates struck up a conversation and the rest, as they say, is history.
Subsequent weekend encounters on the dance floor in Hawick allowed the couple to get further acquainted, but it was at a New Year’s party in the town that they finally became an item.
Married at St Andrews Church in Galashiels, the Chisholmes lived in Hawick for 18 months before moving on to Arbroath, where they stayed for 13 years.
