Disused Dalkeith factory fire

A fire broke out in the workshop area of a derelict factory in Dalkeith recently.

Firefighters from Dalkeith and Musselburgh were called to the blaze at the former Laidlaw and Fairgrieve premises, Thornybank Industrial Estate, at 2.35pm on Wednesday, December 14.

The crews used breathing apparatus and two lines of hose to extinguish the fire. A ladder was also used to check the single storey roof for hot spots.

The cause of the blaze, which was under control by 3.30pm, is not known. The former woollen mill premises closed in 2000 with the loss of 190 jobs.
