Doggone it! County club wins top award

A Midlothian-based dog training club, celebrating its tenth birthday, has been named Training Club Of The Year at a national awards ceremony.

Midlothian Ringcraft, which holds its class every Wednesday evening at Ladywood Leisure Centre, Penicuik, beat off competition from Lancashire-based Thornton-Cleveleys Canine Training Society and London-based Crews Hill Training Club, to win the award at the ceremony dubbed the “PAWSCARS”.

Organiser and trainer Andrea Currie said: “Knowing how many clubs there are all over the UK, we were just absolutely thrilled to make the nominees list. We didn’t dream we would actually win the award. The standard was extremely high and we are overwhelmed at the support we have had. The club is volunteer run and the trainers give up their own spare time, so it’s really warming to receive this recognition.”

Founded in 2006, Midlothian Ringcraft helps owners to train their dogs ready for the breed show ring, where they compete against other dogs based on construction, health and beauty.

At the recent Crufts dog show the club had more than 40 dogs qualifying and competing in various breed categories with their owners.

More than 400 people attended the awards ceremony held at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel in March, raising money for good causes. The PAWSCARS were developed in 2014 to inject some positivity into the UK pedigree dog showing scene.
