Dozens of firefighters and police officers sent to kitchen fire in Edinburgh

Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in the Haymarket area of the city this afternoon.

A fire service spokeswoman said three appliances and a height appliance were called to the first floor flat in Morrison Crescent at about 4:50pm.

Video footage shared on social media shows fire engines lined up along the street with several police vans in attendance. Black smoke could be seen billowing out from the property.

The spokeswoman said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building but details on casualties is not known at this stage.

The spokeswoman said the fire has been extinguished.

A police spokeswoman said officers are now back on patrol after being called to the incident.
