Drop in crime in Midlothian

StatisTICS have revealed that crime has fallen in Midlothian, despite a significant spike in cases of sexual indecency.

In the period April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012, recorded crime was down 4.5 per cent on the same period the previous year.

The figures, released earlier this month by Lothian and Borders Police, showed an eight per cent drop in vandalism, as well as an eight per cent reduction in violent crime and an 14 per cent drop in thefts and break-ins from homes.

Crimes of sexual exposure however, were up 325 per cent, from four in the year 2010/11 to 17 in 2011/12.
