Duke to visit panda home

THE Duke of Edinburgh will go ahead with a visit to welcome Edinburgh Zoo’s new pandas next month – even though the bears won’t be there.

Prince Philip is due to visit the zoo on August 11 in what was to be a formal event to greet the arrival of Tian Tian and Yang Guang.

But their arrival has been delayed, and now zoo officials have confirmed that the bears won’t arrive until later in the year – meaning that the Duke will be given a tour of an empty enclosure.

A zoo spokesman said: “They will be here before the end of the year, we just don’t know when yet. We have not yet received a confirmed date.”
