East Lothian tax is frozen
COUNCIL tax charges in East Lothian are being frozen into the next financial year, the council leader has confirmed.
Councillor Willie Innes said the local authority has agreed to uphold the Scottish Government’s council tax commitment for 2013-14 – the sixth consecutive year the charge has remained the same.
Mr Innes, a Labour councillor, said: “The penalties to increase council tax are so severe that it would be pretty irresponsible for us to try and raise it.”
East Lothian Council is expecting a shortfall of £14 million in its income over the next three years.
