Edinburgh Airport numbers soar

Passenger numbers at Edinburgh Airport grew 6.5 per cent over the last year, according to new figures.

The Capital saw the second-highest growth figures for the UK, behiond only Aberdeen Airport, which saw 9.5 per cent growth between January 1 and November 30 2011 compared to the same period in 2010.

Manchester was on 6 per cent, according to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) provisional data, while Heathrow saw 3.7 per cent growth.

Only airports which handle more than 100,000 passengers a year were included.

An Edinburgh Airport spokeswoman said: “It’s encouraging to see passenger numbers continue to grow in the current climate. Edinburgh Airport has seen eight consecutive months of record passengers from March to October.

“As today’s news shows, it’s a great time for aviation in Scotland.”
