A review of teaching in Midlothian has been launched after a teacher aired creationist views during a science lesson.

Parent Adrian Smales complained to Lasswade High School after his S3 daughter returned home claiming her physics teacher had said evolution was not proven during a discussion about the Big Bang theory on the origins of the universe.

Mr Smales met with head teacher Alan Williamson last week to discuss the issue.

Midlothian Council has investigated the incidentand education spokesman Councillor Lisa Beattie (SNP) said: “I want to make it clear that the teaching of creationism is not part of the science curriculum in Midlothian.”
