Battle lines drawn over Midlothian wind farm

Controversial plans for a nine-turbine wind farm near Penicuik have been resubmitted for assessment by Midlothian Council.

Wind Prospect Developments, on behalf of EDF Energy Renewables, withdrew its original application last May to allow for further ecological studies.

The Mount Lothian application is accompanied by a proposed package of benefits.

Penicuik Environment Protection Association has vowed to continue to fight the plans.

Chairman Professor Anthony Trewavas said the site was legally protected as the habitat for the great crested newt.
